Highland Park has a central main street (Fountainhead) that accommodates a small-town pedestrian scale shopping and residential area. Accented by brick paving, and street lights and sign posts made of cast iron.

Nestled throughout Highland Park are hundreds of mature and maturing trees (mostly oaks) that were transplanted in an effort not only to save the trees, but also to provide a sense of well-established "place."

Tucked back in the community is a serine and tranquil lake where residents can kiak or stroll its bank to take in the natural surroundings and spot the wide variety of wildlife that call Highland Park home.
